Volunteer Opportunities

The Museum of Archaeology focuses on the prehistory of the El Paso/Juárez region. We are always looking for volunteers and interns to assist at the museum. If you're interested in becoming a volunteer please contact us.


Current Need

Docents For Tours

We're currently seeking docents to give tours for School, Youth, and Adult Groups. Tours are given during our museum operating hours.

  • Training Provided
  • Volunteer Application Process includes fingerprinting at no charge


We need assistance with a wide variety of tasks at the Museum of Archaeology such as:

  • Tours for children and adults - weekdays
  • Seeking financial support for exhibits and programs and grant writing
  • Presentations in school classrooms - weekdays
  • Information tables at community events – weekdays and weekends
  • Maintenance of our 15 acre site including trails and Indian Garden
  • Summer archaeology camps - weekdays
  • A variety of tasks connected with special events and programs
  • Exhibit installation - weekdays
  • Gardening – weekdays

Ideal Volunteers

An ideal volunteer for the Museum of Archaeology is someone who has an interest in learning local prehistory. We also look for the following qualities in a volunteer:

  • Interest in giving tours inside the museum and/or outside on our trails and 15 acre site
  • Enjoy talking with people of all ages
  • Able to travel to museum in Northeast El Paso
  • Available during museum hours
  • Bilingual - Spanish and English skills welcome
  • Able to commit to volunteering on a regular basis for several years
  • Good health - giving tours involves one to two hours of standing, walking and talking
  • Those using wheelchairs welcome


Please contact us if you would like to plan an internship in connection with your academic degree program. We have no stipends for interns at this time.
