Free Guided Tours

Guided Tours

The El Paso Museum of Archaeology offers free guided tours to school groups, homeschool co-ops, professional development for companies, and more! Tours can be geared for all ages. A general museum tour will focus on the human occupation of the El Paso area and the Southwest from 23,000 years ago to the present. Tours can also focus on other topics to fit curriculum. We recommend a two-hour visit at the museum. We can also offer additional hands-on activities to enhance your tour.

Tous must be scheduled two weeks in advance.

Entry & Lobby

The lobby of the museum serves as an introduction to the field of archaeology. You'll find an example of an excavation, a full-size model of a pueblo room with hands-on artifacts, and the out tree-ring display. The lobby also houses marine fossils taken from El Paso, and a collection of minerals found in the region. The lobby serves as temporary exhibit space, with exhibits rotating twice a year.

More information regarding temporary exhibits can be found here

South Gallery

Dioramas depict scenes of human occupation in the region across different point in time. Represented are the Paleoindians hunters from over 10,000 years ago, hunters and gatherers of Archaic times, the Jornada Mogollon in the pithouses, Puebloan cliff dwellers, and the Mescalero Apache, including the Mountain Spirit Dancers, who still perform today.

North Gallery

This gallery showcases a variety of artifacts from prehistoric and modern cultures in the El Paso region, such as pottery, stone tools, basketry, and even some fossils from Ice Age animals! In the center of the North Gallery is the auditorium gallery, which serves as a temporary exhibit space, with exhibits rotating twice a year. More information regarding temporary exhibits can be found here: https://epmarch.org/exhibits/changing-exhibits/. The audiorium gallery also contains a collection of artifacts in drawers, which can be opened and examined by visitors.

Outdoor Exhibits

There is more to explore outside the museum! Check out the replica wickiup, the teepee, and the Three Sisters and Pollinator gardens. There is also a small sculpture garden containing sculptures from local artist Ho Baron. Head out on the 0.5 mile walking trail to explore the Chihuahuan Desert!
